The Smell of Flowers by Prae Obscura is a short story that was created for the 2025 Hot Wet Queer Summer Jam. It depicts a small group of followers who travel across regional lines in search of the dead. It is about bodily dysphoria, and visions, and recreating yourself, and baggage from the past. It is also about being stranded at a motel in the middle of the summer.

Discusses death, gore, and abstract dysphoria. Cannibalism is implied.

What gorgeous writing. From the motel description (I thought SO much of classist judgement), to the suitcase reveal, and then the group performance, what an anxious roadtrip. I want to shed my skin and put it in the sun. Loved it.

Thank you so much!

Would love to read this if/when it comes back!

Is it not visible? If the HTML5 reader does not display correctly, I do have a secondary host of it here: https://reamstories.com/page/ltq5wbib5o/story/mcy7chm4525584

Ah! I’m sorry, my browser is to blame and it didn’t appear at all for me but I see it now. Thank you so much for the secondary link as well!

Not to worry! I was delighted to see your comment, and I am glad that everything seems to be working alright

When you extract yourself from your own body which represents something different to you as it does to everyone else so you can rebuild yourself as someone different and free from that skin. Bottom text.
